The 9-mile historic route of the El Paso Mission Trail bypasses some of the most important surviving Spanish mission stations in Texas. Dating back to 1598, the trail starts in El Paso and is a brilliant way to explore Texas's rich multicultural heritage. The Ysleta Mission is a highlight of this popular scenic driving route - consecrated in 1682, it's the oldest structure of its kind in Texas. Further historical tales are showcased in many other galleries in El Paseo. Highly recommended are: The Magoffin Home State Historic Site, The El Paso Holocaust Museum, and The National Border Patrol Museum - this museum provides an insight into life protecting the border between Mexico and the United States. For a more sedate cultural fix, the El Paso Museum of Art has an impressive collection of over 7,000 works of art.
